Bathroom : 8 tips for successful design
The bathroom is a bubble of well-being where you can spend hours pampering yourself; it's also the place to go to get ready before heading off to the office. For these reasons, bathroom design must meet a dual challenge: to be both pleasant and functional.
Here are our tips for a bathroom design that's both zen and efficient.
1. The choice of colors

We start with thegeneral ambience we want to give the space by dressing the walls. And your choice of shades will depend on the size of your bathroom. Keep in mind that light shades "enlarge" the space.
If, as is often the case, your bathroom is a small room, walls in light, bright colors will make it appear larger and airier.
2. Define zones
It's often best to delimit the shower. For this, you have a number of options to bring rhythm and relief to the room.
First of all, you can choose a shower enclosure that matches your desired style. A black glass enclosure is perfect for an industrial look. We also like to build a glass block wall to combine luminosity and visual impact.
To define the shower floor, opt for tiles that contrast with the rest of the bathroom. You can also play with the size of the tiles to define the space.
And to create a harmonious whole, create a visual reminder of the vanity top: either with a coloured border on the wall above the basin, or with storage units in matching colors.
3. Think furniture through
Towels, skincare products, cosmetics, razors, clippers, hairdryers, medicines... there's never too much storage space in the bathroom! So don't hesitate to multiply them intelligently. Columns obviously offer the greatest storage capacity.
As the vanity top is a strategic part of the bathroom, it's a good idea to equip it with additional modules: under the basin and as an extension. Don't forget the shelves, which can be used to store small items high up. And don't forget nested drawers: a clever way of optimizing interior storage and hiding less "aesthetic" items.
Good to know : we love hanging furniture, which frees up floor space and makes cleaning easier.
4. Faucets : the small detail with the big effect

Faucets are a great way to accentuate the ambience of a bathroom. You can choose from a wide range of colors, shapes and finishes to enhance your decor.
For a very classic look, opt for chrome or silver fittings. Brass, in gold or pink, adds a resolutely vintage touch. And if you're more in the mood for sobriety and modernity, consider matte finishes in monochrome tones.
In all cases, for greater harmony in your bathroom, choose a mixer that matches the shower column.
5. Mirror, mirror !

The mirror is obviously a bathroom essential. But don't forget that it can also play a key role in your interior design and decoration.
In terms of ambiance, installing a large mirror will enlarge your room and give you a feeling of space. In terms of functionality, choosing a mirror with wide edges will give you a cleverly integrated storage shelf.
And if you're a fan of high-tech gadgets, you'll be pleased to know that there are heated mirrors available: goodbye steam when you get out of the shower !
6. Accessories at your service
The bathroom has to be functional. That's why we opt for smart accessories that make life easier.
In the shower, telescopic or suction-cup shelves adapt to any configuration, keeping soaps, shampoos and loofahs within easy reach.
Ladders make clever towel dryers. Remember to place it near a radiator, so that warm towels are waiting for you when you get out of the bath!
If you're short of space, install coat hooks above your door to accommodate towels, bathrobes and pocket organizers.
The more organized your bathroom is, the better you'll find your way around and the clearer you'll see.
7. Thinking about lighting
The golden rule of bathroomlighting is to have at least two light sources: around the mirror, and on the ceiling.
For the ceiling, choose recessed sports lights or pendant lights to effectively illuminate the room. And don't forget that the bathroom is a treatment room, so you wantsoft, diffused light that won't dazzle you in the early hours of the morning.
Around the mirror, lighting must be precise for make-up application or shaving. Choose a color and location (wall lamps, spotlights, strip lights) that reproduce natural light, so you can get the best possible rendition of your facial tones when you're getting ready.
Last but not least, scented candles are always a welcome addition to a relaxing bath.
8. Plants for a natural touch
To enhance your decor, finish by adding plants that will add a natural, pleasant touch to your bathroom. Just make sure you choose robust plants that can withstand variable heat and high humidity.

With the right care, orchids, kentia and ferns will feel right at home in your bathroom. We're also thinking of sansevière and aglaonema, which we particularly like for their purifying and depolluting properties.
